Ten McGraw: Your 10th album is released. Your show sells out in three minutes. And the governor names a day in your honor. Who are you? Tim McGraw, of course, whose intimate concert at Chicago’s Joe’s Bar Tuesday (10/20) celebrated the release of Southern Voice. Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn requested “If You’re Reading This” and McGraw’s Tracy Lawrence collaboration “Find Out Who Your Friends Are” as he presented Tim a plaque for the state’s first Tim McGraw Day. During “Real Good Man,” Tim didn’t miss a beat as he signed a plethora of items including clothes, CDs and a woman’s shoulder (which was permanently tattooed within an hour of the show’s conclusion).
Tim’s wife Faith Hill also got a kiss from her husband during closer “My Best Friend” as Blackhawks’ players Patrick Sharp and Adam Burish, The Bachelorette’s Jillian Harris and the Chicago Cubs’ Randy Wells looked on. “It was a great night,” one attendee tells us. “It’s been awhile since I’ve seen Tim in an arena, but this show definitely had all the energy of an arena show!” Audience members each took home a copy of Southern Voice for their $50 admission, which benefited Tim’s Neighbor’s Keeper Foundation. Review here. While in the Windy City, McGraw also taped an episode of PBS’ Soundstage to air at a later date.
